Worth County 4-H Member Receives Career 4-H Scholarship
AMES, Iowa – A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Worth County 4-H member. Abbie Marsh, Grafton, has received the Career 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Shirley Stakey.
Marsh, an eight-year member, is the daughter of Darren and Lori Marsh. She was involved in the photography, clothing selection, food and nutrition, home improvement and visual arts project areas, attended the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference and received the county historian of the year, Ms. Congeniality and Chicago trip winner awards at the local level.
A junior at Iowa State University, Marsh is majoring in Family and Consumer Science Education. She is active in the Family and Consumer Science Education Club, Phi Upsilon Omicron Honor Society and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and she credits 4-H for her career choice.
“Somehow baking cookies for the county fair turned into a love of food and nutrition; knitting a sweater and sewing a quilt turned into a love of textiles; participation in clothing selection developed my love of fashion and design, and being a club secretary and treasurer developed my knowledge of finances and organization. What career could fit my passions better than becoming a family and consumer sciences teacher,” she said. “In the future I also see myself as a 4-H leader or extension worker. I would love to give back to the organization that jump started my enthusiasm in a future career.”
In Iowa, the 4-H program is a part of Iowa State University Extension and headquartered on the ISU campus in Ames. For more information about 4-H, how to get involved or how to apply for a 4-H scholarship, contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
