Monroe County 4-H Member Receives Bettis 4-H Scholarship
AMES, Iowa – A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Monroe County 4-H member. Brooke Scieszinski, Albia, has received the Lloyd and Kathryn Bettis 4-H Scholarship in memory of Herbert Bettis.
Scieszinski, an eight-year member, is the daughter of John and Annette Scieszinski. She has been involved in the communications, visual arts, dog, clothing and home improvement project areas and has received state recognition for clothing selection and educational presentations. A county and state 4-H council member, Scieszinski also has been a state finalist for a communication project award, served as club president and attended the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference and Citizenship-Washington Focus.
“4-H has guided, guides and will guide me in my development as a responsible person,” she said. “The 4-H program has taught me how to set a goal, prepare a strategy to accomplish the goal, complete the job and evaluate my own performance. Through good and bad outcomes, I have succeeded in learning and maturing as a person and citizen.”
A junior at Albia High School, Scieszinski will graduate one year early and plans to attend Iowa State University to major in journalism and mass communications.
In Iowa, the 4-H program is a part of Iowa State University Extension and headquartered on the ISU campus in Ames. For more information about 4-H, how to get involved or how to apply for a 4-H scholarship, contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
