Conference to Help Iowa Businesses Sell to Federal, State, Local Government Agencies

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa-based businesses large and small can learn how to sell their products and services to government agencies at the federal, state and local level this July 30, during a daylong conference in Ankeny. The Iowa Government Procurement Conference is presented by the Iowa State University Extension Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS) and the U.S. Small Business Administration.

“This is a great opportunity for companies of all sizes to discover how they can vie for the nearly $800 billion in stimulus funds Congress has allocated to counteract the current economic downturn,” said program manager Dave Bogaczyk. “Not only will attendees be taught the fine points of government contracting and what products and services government agencies are looking for now, they’ll also have the chance to meet and network with government officials and prime contractors.”

The event will take place at the Courtyard by Marriott, 2405 SE Creekview Dr., Ankeny, Iowa, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include lunch. Advanced registration is highly recommended, since the conference has sold out in previous years. Registration costs $50 in advance and $75 at the door.

The Iowa Government Procurement Conference is just one of the ways CIRAS assists companies wishing to sell to the government. Throughout the year, CIRAS specialists work one on one with Iowa businesses to help them understand the market potential of government procurement, reduce the barriers inherent in working with the government and assist existing government contractors with market expansion. The services are offered through a nationwide program called Procurement Technical Assistance Program (PTAP), administered by the Defense Logistics Agency for the U.S. Department of Defense. Local centers throughout the country assist businesses in their respective states. CIRAS manages the Iowa PTAP Program. The services are offered at no cost or at a nominal cost.
