AMES, Iowa – Iowa State University Extension 4-H Youth Development returns to the 2009 Iowa State Fair with a variety of events and exhibits that are sure to provide entertainment and new experiences for even the most veteran of fair visitors. The 4-H Exhibits Building will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, Aug. 13 to 23, and will offer many exhibits that have been prepared by 4-H members.

The 4-H Exhibits Building will show off some 3,000 exhibits from 4-H’ers around the state. In addition to nearly 600 photography exhibits, look for a unique fabric-sculpted dress, barn quilts, a handmade wooden bed frame, a mounted bison head and more. Teens to Compete in ‘Stitch This!’ Fashion Design Event
Thirteen teams of 4-H teens will compete in the Iowa 4-H “Stitch This!” fashion design event at the Iowa State Fair. The public can watch the teams tear apart wedding dresses and design new garments in the 4-H Exhibits Building from 3-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22. The event will culminate in a runway-style fashion show at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 22 on the 4-H Exhibits Building’s main stage. 4-H’ers Take the $15 Challenge
With just $15 to spend, price-savvy 4-H’ers have searched through consignment stores, second-hand shops and garage/yard sales to find a complete ensemble to present at the $15 Challenge, part of the 4-H Revue of Fashions. Whether participants take part in the $15 challenge or other areas within the 4-H Clothing Event -- where they purchase, select or construct their own garments -- they take part in educational workshops and modeling practice to get ready for their big moment on the catwalk, Aug. 13, 14 and 15 at noon at Merle Hay Mall in the Lower Bridge Court. Iowa 4-H Foundation to Raffle 2009 Toyota Corolla
The Iowa 4-H Foundation is partnering with Wilson Toyota of Ames to give away “Clover,” a 2009 Toyota Corolla during the second annual Iowa 4-H Vehicle Raffle. The car will be on display and raffle tickets will be available in the 4-H Exhibits. Tickets will be sold for $5 per ticket, five tickets for $20 and 30 for $100.
