Fremont County 4-H'er to Attend National 4-H Congress in Atlanta

AMES, Iowa – Scott Johnson of Fremont County has been selected to represent Iowa at the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Ga., Nov. 28 – Dec. 2.  He is sponsored by the Iowa 4-H Foundation National 4-H Congress Endowment. Johnson, 17, is the son of Greg and Teresa Johnson of Farragut.

Johnson is one of 22 youth from Iowa attending the leadership conference, entitled “Accept the Challenge.”  Iowa’s Congress delegates are selected through interviews and evaluation of support materials.  Johnson, a senior at Sidney Community School, was chosen for his leadership, citizenship and overall achievement in the 4-H program.

During his nine years in 4-H, Johnson has completed several major projects including leadership, citizenship, food and nutrition, breeding beef and market beef. He has received state 4-H honors including the top 10 percent in the fashion review at the Iowa State Fair. At the local level, he has received the Danforth I Dare You award, food and nutrition achievement and the merit award. He served as president, secretary and committee chairman of his local 4-H club. Johnson also participated in county 4-H council, area 4-H council, state 4-H council and the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.

“Those years in 4-H have given me goals to work toward and helped me establish my work ethic,” Johnson said.  “It has helped me work on my leadership and communication skills that have made me the person I am today. 4-H alsohas  given me a sense of belonging, life-long friends, and even helped me realize my dream of attending Iowa State University.”
