AMES, Iowa – Amanda Huntrods of Madison County has been selected to represent Iowa at the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Ga., Nov. 28 – Dec. 2. She is sponsored by the Iowa 4-H Foundation National 4-H Congress Endowment. Huntrods, 17, is the daughter of Don and Rita Huntrods of Van Meter.
Huntrods is one of 22 youth from Iowa attending the leadership conference, entitled “Accept the Challenge.” Iowa’s Congress delegates are selected through interviews and evaluation of support materials. Huntrods, a senior at Van Meter High School, was chosen for her leadership, citizenship and overall achievement in the 4-H program.
During her nine years in 4-H, Huntrods has completed several major projects including communication, dog, beef, and food and nutrition. She has received state 4-H honors including a state dog project award. She has received a major life skills award, leadership awards, achievement awards and citizenship awards at the county level. Huntrods has served as vice-president, treasurer, secretary, historian and recreation officer of her 4-H club. She also has participated in county 4-H council, area 4-H council, state 4-H council, county youth committee and the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.
“4-H has given me many opportunities to experience new activities, meet great people and go places,” Huntrods said. “I’ve gained so many skills that will help throughout my life, including communication, leadership and citizenship. In shorter terms, 4-H has helped me become the type of person I want to be.”
