Howard County 4-H'er to Attend National 4-H Congress in Atlanta

AMES, Iowa – Maddi Friedrich of Howard County has been selected to represent Iowa at the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Ga., Nov. 28 – Dec. 2.  She is sponsored by the Iowa 4-H Foundation National 4-H Congress Endowment.  Friedrich, 16, is the daughter of Rod and Toni Friedrich of Alta Vista.

Friedrich is one of 22 youth from Iowa attending the leadership conference, entitled “Accept the Challenge.”  Iowa’s Congress delegates are selected through interviews and evaluation of support materials. Friedrich, a junior at Ivanhoe Christian Academy, was chosen for her leadership, citizenship and overall achievement in the 4-H program.

During her eight years in 4-H, Friedrich has completed several major projects including citizenship, leadership, communication, horse and home improvement.  She has received awards at the state level for presentations and working exhibits, the Seal of Excellence and other citizenship projects.  At the local level, she has received awards for her citizenship, leadership and communication projects.  She served as treasurer, secretary, historian, news reporter and recreation leader for her 4-H club.  Friedrich also participated on the county 4-H council, area 4-H council, state 4-H council, county youth committee and the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.

“4-H has given me the opportunity to learn life skills such as leadership, citizenship and communications,” Friedrich said.
