AMES, Iowa – Sara Rockow of Webster County has been selected to represent Iowa at the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Ga., Nov. 28 – Dec. 2. She is sponsored by the Iowa 4-H Foundation National 4-H Congress Endowment. Rockow, 16, is the daughter of John and Debra Rockow of Fort Dodge.
Rockow is one of 22 youth from Iowa attending the leadership conference, entitled “Accept the Challenge.” Iowa’s Congress delegates are selected through interviews and evaluation of support materials. Rockow, a junior at Fort Dodge High School, was chosen for her leadership, citizenship and overall achievement in the 4-H program.
During her six years in 4-H, Rockow has completed several major projects including citizenship, leadership, communication, photography, and food and nutrition. She has received state honors including leadership project awards. At the local level, she has been recognized for her awards in communication and the intermediate spirit award. Rockow served as president, vice-president, treasurer and historian of her 4-H club. She also participated in county 4-H council, state 4-H council, the Citizenship-Washington Focus and the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.
“During my time in 4-H, I have acquired knowledge that is unforgettable and hard to obtain from anywhere else,” Rockow said. “I have learned so much about myself as a person, and that helps me succeed in what I set my mind to do in life. I have gained self-confidence and leadership skills in this program.”
