AMES, Iowa – Shea Kruger of Worth County has been selected to represent Iowa at the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Ga., Nov. 28 – Dec. 2.  She is sponsored by the Iowa 4-H Foundation National 4-H Congress Endowment. Kruger, 17, is the daughter of Neil and Laurene Kruger of Grafton.

Kruger is one of 22 youth from Iowa attending the leadership conference, entitled “Accept the Challenge.”  Iowa’s Congress delegates are selected through interviews and evaluation of support materials. Kruger, a senior at St. Ansgar High School, was chosen for her leadership, citizenship and overall achievement in the 4-H program.

During her nine years in 4-H, Kruger has completed several major projects including citizenship, leadership, communication, horse and music.  She has received state 4-H honors including a communication award, leadership award and citizenship award.  Along with these, Kruger has received recognition at the county level for outstanding intermediate, outstanding record book and top historian. She served as president, secretary and historian of her 4-H club. She also participated in county 4-H council, area 4-H council, state 4-H council, the National 4-H Conference and the Iowa 4-H Youth conference.

“4-H has taught me communication and leadership skills that will be valuable throughout the rest of my life,” Kruger said.  “I’ve had amazing opportunities to travel and meet lifelong friends. My 4-H experiences have led me to consider a career working in the medical field, possibly in a non-profit organization.”
