AMES, Iowa – Emma Christianson of Worth County has been selected to represent Iowa at the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Ga., Nov. 28 – Dec. 2. She is sponsored by the Iowa 4-H Foundation National 4-H Congress Endowment. Christianson, 17, is the daughter of Mike Christianson of Lake Mills and Edie and Brian Arnold of St. Ansgar.
Christianson is one of 22 youth from Iowa attending the leadership conference, entitled “Accept the Challenge.” Iowa’s Congress delegates are selected through interviews and evaluation of support materials. Christianson, a junior at Lake Mills High School, was chosen for her leadership, citizenship and overall achievement in the 4-H program.
During her six years in 4-H, Christianson has completed several major projects including visual arts, home improvement, food and nutrition, clothing and personal development. She has received awards for record-keeping and county council ambassador. She served as reporter, treasurer and secretary of her 4-H club. She also participated in the county 4-H council and county youth committee.
“4-H has shown me how much I can grow as a person if I try my best and am not afraid to try something new,” Christianson said. “4-H has helped me be a better person and has taught me many skills that I will use as I go on in the future. If I never joined 4-H, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
