Adair County 4-H'er to Attend National 4-H Congress in Atlanta

AMES, Iowa – Emily Bingaman of Adair County has been selected to represent Iowa at the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Ga., Nov. 28 – Dec. 2.  She is sponsored by the Iowa 4-H Foundation National 4-H Congress Endowment. Bingaman, 17, is the daughter of Tom and Sandy Bingaman of Greenfield.

Bingaman is one of 22 youth from Iowa attending the leadership conference, entitled “Accept the Challenge.”  Iowa’s Congress delegates are selected through interviews and evaluation of support materials.  Bingaman, a senior at Nodaway Valley High School, was chosen for her leadership, citizenship and overall achievement in the 4-H program.

During her nine years in 4-H, Bingaman has completed several major projects including home improvement, clothing selection, photography, food and nutrition, and child development.  She has been on the State Technology Team and Speak Out for Military Kids.  She served as historian and secretary of her 4-H club.  She also participated in county 4-H council, county youth committee and the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.

“4-H has made me a better citizen and leader in the past nine years,” Bingaman said.  “I have gained communication skills that will help me in the future. I plan to major in journalism and mass communication, so these skills will help immensely.”
