Pedersen on planting and the weather -- ISU Extension soybean agronomist Palle Pedersen says the spring weather has been frustrating for both farmers and researchers. He says he has had a lot of difficulty getting his test plots planted this year.
Cox on Iowa manufacturing – Ron Cox, the director of ISU Extension’s Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS), says the latest PMI, a leading economic indicator, shows the status of manufacturing in the nation is still under some pressure. However, the Midwest and Iowa manufacturing numbers are doing much better.
Otto on Iowa’s economic growth -- ISU Extension economist Dan Otto says economists are debating whether or not the nation is in a recession, but that answer won’t be officially answered for another four to six months. He says Iowa is showing signs of improved economic growth.
Lawrence on grain cost impacts on livestock producers -- ISU Extension economist John Lawrence is also the director of the Iowa Beef Center and he says high grain costs are adding to economic losses for both cattle and hog producers.
Lawson on research farm projects -- Vince Lawson, superintendent of the Muscatine Island Research Farm in Fruitland, Iowa, tells us about the farm and some of the research projects for 2008.
