Edwards on crop insurance -- ISU Extension economist William Edwards says crop insurance will help many Iowa farmers who suffered crop damage this year. The new farm bill may offer some additional assistance.

Pedersen on cool temperatures and soybeans -- ISU Extension soybean agronomist Palle Pedersen says weather is the key for soybean crops to develop decent yields in 2008. He says the cooler temperatures have been beneficial, but a long season could be the key factor in the size of this year’s crop.

Taylor on community planning to avoid floods -- Gary Taylor, ISU Extension specialist and assistant professor in the Department of Community and Regional Planning, says the flooding this year has many communities not only trying to clean up, but making plans to avoid similar situations in the future.

Chaikin on getting youth to study space science -- One of the goals of the Iowa Space Grant Consortium is getting young people involved in space science. To do that, the consortium brings teachers to the Kennedy Space Center to give them training in teaching young people. Andy Chaikin, an author and space consultant, was one of the keynote speakers encouraging more young people to study space science.

Payne on RAGBRAI -- Vice President for ISU Extension and Outreach Jack Payne took several co-workers on a bicycle ride across Iowa … called RAGBRAI. Payne says it is an opportunity to see Iowa up close and personal.
