AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University Extension climatologist Elwynn Taylor, program specialist Rich Pope, and corn agronomist Roger Elmore discuss the latest Iowa Crops and Weather report for the week ending July 27, 2008. It indicates 59 percent of the corn and 62 percent of the soybean crops are in good to excellent condition. That's a three percentage point drop in corn and a one percentage point increase for soybean over last week's numbers.

Taylor says the past week was again stormy and wet in parts of Iowa and ideal in many spots. He says his yield estimate for corn is currently 148 bushels per acre.

Pope says weather has caused some problems in corn and a few diseases have begun to show up that warrant field scouting.

Elmore says he is hoping for a late growing season and some "perfect" weather conditions for crop development between now and then.
