Farmland Leasing Workshops Set for July and August

7/21/2008

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State University Extension farm management specialists are offering 47 farmland leasing workshops in July and August. The workshops are designed to assist landowners, tenants and other agri-business professionals with issues related to farmland ownership, management and leasing agreements.

“The meetings began July 17 and continue through Aug. 25,” said William Edwards, ISU Extension agricultural economist. “Each workshop attendee will receive a set of useful materials about farm leasing arrangements.”

Extension farm management specialists will present information from the latest ISU Extension cash rental rate survey and land values survey. Topics also will include comparisons of different types of leases, lease termination, impacts of yields and prices, calculating a fair cash rent, using spreadsheets to compare leases and available Internet resources, Edwards said.

A list of scheduled dates, times and locations is available at: www.extension.iastate.edu/agdm/info/meetings.html.
