AMES, Iowa -- A survey of about 1,000 Iowa manufacturers who are located in areas affected by widespread flooding in June indicates that about half of them experienced impacts related to the floods.
Ron Cox, director of the Iowa State University Extension Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS), said the targeted survey contacted industries located in the zip codes affected by the flooding. About 16 percent of those responding said they had direct damage resulting from flooding, and another 33 percent said they had indirect losses. More than half of those suffering losses (56 percent) said flooding prevented employees from getting to work, and 53 percent said road and bridge problems interrupted their usual business patterns.
