State 4-H Volunteers Retreat Set For Feb. 8-9

1/17/2008

AMES, Iowa—The 2008 State 4-H Volunteers Retreat is set to “Capture the Spirit” of volunteers, staff, parents and intermediate and senior 4-H members as they come together to share ideas and learn about innovative programs to better Iowa's 4-H programs.

The annual retreat, set for Feb. 8-9 at the Des Moines Area Community College in Newton, is sponsored by Monsanto, the National 4-H Council and Iowa State University (ISU) Extension 4-H Youth Development. This year’s retreat will offer workshops to inform and entertain new and experienced volunteers, staff and 4-H members.

“A wide variety of learning opportunities will be offered to volunteers, youth and staff,” said Chris Gleason, 4-H program coordinator. “There will be workshops about recycling, food and nutrition, livestock, recreation and leadership for young people.”

Members of the Iowa 4-H Technology Team, Iowa 4-H Youth Council and Chuck Morris, Iowa’s 4-H program director, are some of the many workshop presentors at the retreat.

Proceeds for a silent auction, going on  throughout the event, will go toward scholarships for leaders attending the North Central Region Volunteer Forum in Nov. in Columbus, Ohio.

Current 4-H leaders, senior youth and those interested in becoming leaders can attend the program.

Registration, including the $15 fee, should be sent to Ruth Wagner, 417 S.E. 6th St., Ankeny, IA 50021 by Jan. 26. There will be no refunds for cancellations after Feb. 1. For registration forms and more information about the retreat visit http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4H/volretreat.htm
