Corn Growers Seek Improved Yields
Roger Elmore, ISU Extension corn agronomist
1/24/2008
AMES, Iowa -- How much corn can corn growers grow? This year the answer was 171 bushels per acre for Iowa farmers, but just 151 nationally -- while some producers in corn yield contests have averaged more than 350 bushels per acre. ISU Extension corn agronomist Roger Elmore says a state average over 300 bushels per acre will not happen anytime soon, but research is ongoing to maximize corn yields. Elmore says the potential is there.
