AMES, Iowa – Nervous about sending Junior to a full week of overnight camp but think he might be ready for the next step? Day Camp Plus might be the right option for both parent and child.

New this year, the Iowa 4-H Center is offering an additional option to day campers ages 8-10 who would like to experience one night of sleeping over at camp. The weeks of July 7-11 and July 21-25 will offer this option. Campers can stay for the night of July 11-12 or the night of July 25-26.

It works like this, according to Traci Haselhuhn, program specialist at the camp. After day camp ends, Day Camp Plus participants will have dinner followed by s'mores and a campfire. The next morning, campers will be served breakfast in bed and play games until their parents arrive for the closing ceremony at 10 a.m.

“The one-night stay is a great opportunity to bridge the gap between day and overnight camp,” said Haselhuhn.

Registration for Day Camp Plus, other day camp options and other information can be found on the Iowa 4-H Center’s Web site at /4hcenter/summercamp/daycamp.php or by calling the camp at (515) 795-3338.

In Iowa the 4-H program is administered by Iowa State University Extension 4-H Youth Development and headquartered on the university campus in Ames.
