Lyon County 4-H'er Receives Pioneer Community College Scholarship

AMES, Iowa – A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Lyon County 4-H member.  Joshua Rockhill, Rock Rapids, received a Pioneer Community College 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc.

Rockhill, a nine-year 4-H member, is the son of Doug and Lisa Rockhill.  He has been involved in beef, swine, sheep, horticulture and dairy projects.  He received the “Spirit of 4-H” Award and the 4-H Merit Award.  He also served as president of his local club and participated in the county 4-H council.

“My experience in 4-H has helped me develop the confidence to be a better leader in my school, church and community,” Rockhill said.  “It has helped to foster my interest in animal breeding and is why I chose the agriculture production career path.”

A recent graduate of Central Lyon High School, Rockhill plans to attend Iowa Lakes Community College – Emmetsburg with a major in agricultural production technology.

In Iowa, the 4-H program is a part of Iowa State University Extension and headquartered on the ISU campus in Ames. For more information about 4-H, how to get involved or how to apply for a 4-H scholarship, contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
