Greene County 4-H'er Receives Pioneer Community College Scholarship

AMES, Iowa – A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Greene County 4-H member.  Cheyenne McNichols, Rippey, received a Pioneer Community College 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc.

McNichols, an eight-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Shawneene Kenan and Mike McNichols.  She has been involved in swine, rabbit, poultry, dog and horse projects.  She has been awarded Bucket Calf Superintendent and Greene County Fair Queen.  McNichols has served as president, secretary, reporter and historian of her local 4-H club.  She also served in county 4-H council, state 4-H council, the Citizenship-Washington Focus and the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.

“4-H has helped me to establish a solid foundation in the development of many essential life skills,” McNichols said.  “As I move forward in pursuing a career in veterinary medicine, I feel that I have been given an extra boost through the experiences that 4-H has given me.  From job interviews and resumes, to record keeping and public speaking, 4-H has me covered.”

A recent graduate of Jefferson-Scranton Community High School, McNichols plans on attending Des Moines Area Community College with a major science and animal science.

In Iowa, the 4-H program is a part of Iowa State University Extension and headquartered on the ISU campus in Ames. For more information about 4-H, how to get involved or how to apply for a 4-H Scholarship, contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
