AMES, Iowa – Two Boone County 4-H members have been awarded a $1,000 scholarship.  Jessica Jenkins and Allyson Ladd, Boone, each received an Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the Iowa Foundation for Agriculture Advancement.

Jessica Jenkins, a nine-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Walt and Karla Jenkins.  She has been involved with beef, photography, clothing, swine and rabbit projects.  She has received gold project awards, achievement awards and merit awards for her different projects.  She served as president, vice president and treasurer of her 4-H club.  She also participated in the county 4-H council and the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.

“The work I’ve done for 4-H has greatly helped me develop my work skills.  This has helped me in my academics, extra-curricular activities and many other areas of my life.  Growing up on a farm and seeing all of the different possibilities through 4-H has led to a passion and interest in agriculture that helped me decide to have a future career in agriculture,” Jenkins said.

A recent Boone High School graduate, Jenkins plans on attending Iowa State University, majoring in agronomy.

Allyson Ladd, a seven-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Paul and Debbie Ladd.  She has been involved in horse, beef, photography, clothing and home improvement.   She received the Leadership and Spirit Award at the state level.  She served as president, vice-president and secretary of her 4-H club.  Ladd participated in the county 4-H council, county youth committee and attended the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.

“The communication and leadership skills I have gained throughout my experiences with 4-H and agricultural education are second to none,” Ladd said.  “I was able to discover my passions and work toward my goals.

Ladd is a recent graduate of Boone High School.  She plans on attending Iowa State University, majoring in agriculture business.
