Clayton County 4-H'er Receives Iowa State Fair Scholarship
AMES, Iowa – A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Clayton County 4-H member. Leah Henkes, Luana, received an Iowa State Fair Scholarship sponsored by the Iowa Foundation for Agriculture Advancement.
Henkes, a nine-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Trent and Leslie Henkes. She has been involved with dairy, clothing selection, food and nutrition, animal science and leadership. She has received leadership, dairy, showmanship and clothing awards at the Iowa State Fair. She served as president, treasurer and historian of her 4-H club. Henkes also participated in the county, area and state 4-H councils and Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.
“4-H has been the most beneficial organization I have been involved with,” Henkes said. “It has provided me with opportunities in communications, leadership and hands-on skills. I have tried many new project areas and can truly say I enjoy 4-H.”
Henkes is a recent graduate of MFL Mar-Mac High School. She plans to attend Iowa State University majoring in dairy science and journalism.
In Iowa, the 4-H program is a part of Iowa State University Extension and headquartered on the ISU campus in Ames. For more information about 4-H, how to get involved or how to apply for a 4-H scholarship, contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
