Wapello County 4-H Member Receives Orscheln Scholarship

AMES, Iowa – A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Wapello County 4-H member.  Sara Elizabeth Tanner, Ottumwa, received an Orscheln 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Orscheln Farm and Home Supply Company Inc.

Tanner, a nine-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Steve and Kim Tanner.  She participated in photography, woodworking, home improvement, visual arts, and food and nutrition projects.  She served as president, vice-president and secretary of her local 4-H club.

“Many of the skills that I have learned through my involvement in 4-H will help me to succeed during my future education,” Tanner said.  “4-H has made me a more responsible person as well as teaching me time management, which will be key when balancing studying and socializing.  I have also become more organized through my experiences in 4-H.  Being organized will help me know what needs to be done and when I need to do it.  I know that I will be able to succeed in college by using the skills that I have learned throughout my nine years of 4-H.”

A recent graduate of Eddyville-Blakesburg High School, Tanner plans on attending Iowa State University, majoring in kinesiology and health.

In Iowa, the 4-H program is a part of Iowa State University Extension and headquartered on the ISU campus in Ames. For more information about 4-H, how to get involved or how to apply for a 4-H scholarship, contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
