Boone County 4-H Member Receives Orscheln Scholarship
AMES, Iowa – A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Boone County 4-H member. Kiley Swanson, Dayton, received an Orscheln 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Orscheln Farm and Home Supply Co. Inc.
Swanson, a nine-year 4-H member, is the son of Charles and Judy Swanson. He has participated in sheep, swine, aerospace, citizenship and leadership, earning blue ribbons at the Iowa State Fair and swine and sheep showmanship honors at the local level. He also served as president, vice president and reporter of his 4-H club.
“Through 4-H, I learned the importance of setting goals and meeting deadlines,” Swanson said. “It has also helped me become active in my community through different citizenship projects. In the future I plan to stay involved in whatever community I live in. Also, through the many different agricultural experiences in 4-H, I want to pursue a career in production farming.”
A recent high school graduate, Swanson plans to attend Iowa State University, majoring in agricultural systems technology.
In Iowa, the 4-H program is a part of Iowa State University Extension and headquartered on the ISU campus in Ames. For more information about 4-H, how to get involved or how to apply for a 4-H scholarship, contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
