AMES, Iowa – A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Benton County 4-H member. Luke Stien, Newhall, received the Theisen Home Farm Auto 4-H Scholarship, sponsored by Theisen Supply Inc.
Stien, a nine-year 4-H member, is the son of Doug and Debbie Stien. He participated most actively in the project areas of market lambs, breeding sheep, photography and woodworking. He was a State Fair 4-H Premier Exhibitor in Sheep, received a blue ribbon for photography and was a class and division winner at the Iowa State Fair. He served as president, treasurer and reporter for his local 4-H club.
“Being a nine-year member in 4-H has enabled me to develop life skills, enhance my leadership abilities and learn to work with a team effectively,” Stien said. “Through my 4-H projects, I learned to set goals, keep records and evaluate the outcomes, which helped me improve.”
A recent graduate of Benton Community High School, Stien plans to major in agricultural engineering at Iowa State University.
In Iowa, the 4-H program is a part of Iowa State University Extension and headquartered on the ISU campus in Ames. For more information about 4-H, how to get involved or how to apply for a 4-H scholarship, contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
