Franklin County 4-H Member Receives Schulte Scholarship
AMES, Iowa – A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Franklin County 4-H member. Taylor Collins, Hampton, received the Schulte 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Florine and Ron Swanson in honor of Sylvia Brockschink Schulte.
Collins, a nine-year 4-H member, is the son of Chad and Dawn Collins. He has been involved with projects such as clothing, communications, photography, home improvement, and food and nutrition. He has won various state awards for clothing selection, speaking, and excellence in a working exhibit. He has also received recognition for his photography record books. He was president, vice-president and secretary of his 4-H group. He participated in his county 4-H council and attended the Citizen-Washington Focus and the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.
“4-H has influenced me to be a better person by teaching me an array of skills that I could not have learned anywhere else,” Collins said. “The utmost important skills 4-H has taught me over the last nine years is community service. 4-H has given me the drive and passion for a lifelong career in service. This passion is why I want to major in elementary education with a literary endorsement and become a Title 1 reading teacher.”
A recent graduate of Hampton-Dumont High School, Collins plans on attending the University of Northern Iowa, majoring in elementary education with a literary endorsement.
In Iowa, the 4-H program is a part of Iowa State University Extension and headquartered on the ISU campus in Ames. For more information about 4-H, how to get involved or how to apply for a 4-H scholarship, contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
