Osceola County 4-H Member Receives Murphy Brown LLC Scholarship


AMES, Iowa – A $500 scholarship has been awarded to an Osceola County 4-H member.  Michael Berkland, Sibley, received a Murphy-Brown L.L.C. 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Murphy-Brown L.L.C.

Berkland, a nine-year member of 4-H, is the son of Dan and Loretta Berkland.  He participated in beef, horse, swine, leadership and citizenship projects.  He has been awarded for citizenship, leadership, visual arts and nutrition.  He served as president, treasurer and librarian for the 4-H club.  He also participated in the county 4-H council and the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference. 

“4-H has helped me develop life skills in leadership and communication that have enabled me to succeed in my pre-veterinary studies at Iowa State,” Berkland said.  “As a member of this year’s President’s Leadership Class, I feel I can carry these skills with me through veterinary school and into my chosen profession.”

Berkland is a freshman at Iowa State University majoring in animal science/ pre-veterinary medicine.  He is a member of the Pre-Vet Club and ACES learning community.
