Scott County 4-H Member Receives Paul 4-H Scholarship


AMES, Iowa – A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Scott County 4-H member.  Erin Fischer, Walcott, received the Paul 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the family of Henry and Mary Martin Paul.

Fischer, a nine-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Dale and Julianne Fischer.  She has participated in communications, food and nutrition, clothing selection, visual arts and home improvement.  She received awards for educational presentations, food and nutrition, and speaking.  She served as president, vice-president and secretary for her 4-H club and participated in the county 4-H council.  Fischer also attended the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.

“4-H has helped me explore my areas of interest, as well as other new areas.  Through my involvement in community service and communications, I’ve not only developed character, but also have helped myself lessen the anxieties of stage,” Fischer said.  “I’ve become more confident speaking to people in intimate and large group settings.  The opportunity to learn and grow through 4-H has not only helped me develop as a person, but has also influenced on my future plans and ideas.”

A recent North Scott High School graduate, Fischer plans on attending Iowa State University, majoring in English.
