Marion County 4-Her Awarded Pioneer Community College Scholarship
AMES, Iowa – A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Marion County 4-H member. Wesley Alexander, Dallas, received a Pioneer Community College Scholarship sponsored by Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc.
Alexander, a nine-year 4-H member, is the son of Rod and Miki Alexander. He has participated in swine, horses, woodworking, metal working and cooking. He has also served as the president and vice president of his 4-H club.
“4-H played the biggest role in money management for me,” he said. “It gave me a small income every year and with this income I started a bank account and learned how to save for the next year and spend it wisely.”
A recent high school graduate, Alexander plans to attend Kirkwood Community College, majoring in parks and natural resources.
In Iowa, the 4-H program is a part of Iowa State University Extension and headquartered on the ISU campus in Ames. For more information about 4-H, how to get involved or how to apply for a 4-H scholarship, contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
