Apply Now for New 4-H Equine Science Scholarship to Ellsworth Community College

4/29/2008

AMES, Iowa -- Current and former 4-H’ers are eligible for a new Iowa 4-H Foundation scholarship. The Ellsworth Community College 4-H Scholarship, worth $750, will be awarded to a first year student at Ellsworth Community College majoring in the Equine Science program. Scholarship applications will be accepted until May 16, 2008.

This scholarship will be awarded for the 2008-09 school year, said Mitchell Hoyer, a program coordinator with Iowa State University Extension 4-H Youth Development. Applicants should use the standard Iowa 4-H Foundation scholarship form located at www.extension.iastate.edu/4H/grants.html, or contact their county extension office for an application.

“We’re pleased to have this new scholarship available to help 4-H members continue their education,” Hoyer said. “We hope this scholarship also will encourage students to remain in Iowa and become part of a growing horse industry in the state.”

Preference will be given to 4-H members who were active in the 4-H horse project area at least one year, Hoyer said. Eligibility is not limited to 2008 graduating seniors, he added. Any 4-H’er or former 4-H’er who will be in his or her first year at Ellsworth Community College and enrolled in the Equine Science program is eligible.
