Veterinarian Update Planned

AMES, Iowa – Iowa veterinarians are invited to attend the “Update for Veterinarians.” The workshop will be held May 16 at 9 a.m. at the Iowa State University (ISU) McNay Research Farm near Chariton. The program includes several topics of specific interest to those who case for beef and sheep.

 

Topics covered in these workshops include:

  • McNay Co-Products Demos
  • How Can Cow Calf Producers Adapt to Higher Land Values and Land Prices?
  • Health Considerations with Co-Products Use
  • Beef Cattle and  Feed Price Market Update
  • Cattle Grazing Systems to Protect Water Quality
  • Sand Hills Calving System

Featured speaker will be Rodney Jones, Kansas State University ranch economist. Other speakers include Joe Sellers, ISU Extension beef specialist; Terry Engelken, ISU College of Veterinary Medicine; Steve Ensley, ISU College of Veterinary Medicine; Nolan Hartwig, ISU College of Veterinary Medicine, John Lawrence, Iowa Beef Center; James Russell, ISU Department of Animal Science; and Daryl Strohbehn, ISU Extension beef specialist.

 

Sponsors of the workshops include the ISU Extension and ISU’s Experiment Station.

 

To get to the McNay Farm, go south 4 miles on Highway 65 from the intersection of highways 65 and 34, then 2.5 miles east on a gravel road and turn north .25 mile. The headquarters is on the east side of the road.
