Mahaska County 4-H Member Receives Pioneer Community College 4-H Scholarship


AMES, Iowa -- A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Mahaska County 4-H member. Joshua Spoelstra, New Sharon, has received a Pioneer Community College 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc.


Spoelstra, an eight-year 4-H member, is the son of Royce and Sharon Spoelstra. He has participated most actively in the project areas of beef, engineering and agronomy. On the state level, he has received an award for beef. He served as vice-president of his 4-H club.


“4-H allowed me to get involved in my community and was able to work for the betterment of my community,” Spoelstra said. “It allowed me to learn how to be profitable in the agricultural sector.”


Spoelstra is a graduate of Pella Christian High School and plans to major in agriculture business and technology at Muscatine Community College.
