AMES, Iowa -- A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Washington County 4-H member. Kristene McCall, West Chester, has received an Alumni 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the Iowa 4-H Foundation Scholarship Fund.
McCall, a nine-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Andrew and Cynthia McCall. She has participated most actively in the project areas of home improvement, clothing and visual arts. On the county level, she has received an award for home improvement and an honorable mention award. She served as vice-president, secretary and reporter of her 4-H club.
“Being in 4-H lets me interact with different aged kids. Being an upper class student, the younger kids look up to me just like they would a teacher,” McCall said. “Being able to interact with kids and help them with their problems made my decision about wanting to be a Special Education teacher stronger.”
McCall is a graduate of Mid-Prairie Senior High School and plans to major in special education at Kirkwood Community College.
In Iowa, the 4-H program is a part of Iowa State University Extension and headquartered on the ISU campus in Ames. For more information about 4-H, how to get involved, or how to apply for a 4-H scholarship contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
