Palo Alto County 4-H Member Receives Pioneer Community College 4-H Scholarship

AMES, Iowa -- A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Palo Alto County 4-H member. Andy Jacobs, LuVerne, has received a Pioneer Community College 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc.

Jacobs, a nine-year 4-H member, is the son of Randy and Kim Jacobs. He has participated most actively in the project areas of swine, horticulture and food and nutrition. On the county level, he has received awards for swine, home improvement and natural resources. He served as treasurer of his 4-H club. He was also a member in his county 4-H council and county youth committee. He also attended the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference and Citizenship-Washington Focus program.

“4-H has been great,” Jacobs said. “When I have kids, I will make sure that they have the same experiences such as friends and leadership as I had in 4-H.”

Jacobs is a graduate of Emmetsburg High School and plans to major in horticulture at Iowa Lakes Community College.

In Iowa, the 4-H program is a part of Iowa State University Extension and headquartered on the ISU campus in Ames. For more information about 4-H, how to get involved, or how to apply for a 4-H Scholarship contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
