Des Moines County 4-H Member Receives Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship

AMES, Iowa -- A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Des Moines County 4-H member. Russ Beckman, Sperry, has received an Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement.

Beckman, a nine-year 4-H member, is the son of Randy and Sherlyn Beckman. He has participated most actively in the project areas of beef, swine and sheep. On the county level, he has received awards for outstanding 4-Her, achievement and leadership. He served as president, secretary and treasurer of his 4-H club. He was also a member of his county 4-H council and county youth committee.

“Throughout my 4-H years I can reflect back on many memories and treasure the numerous things I’ve taken from the experiences,” Beckman said. “Without the experience, knowledge and skills that I have gained through the 4-H program, I wouldn’t be near the person that I am today.”

Beckman is a graduate of Mediapolis Community High School and plans to major in agriculture at Iowa State University.

In Iowa, the 4-H program is a part of Iowa State University Extension and headquartered on the ISU campus in Ames. For more information about 4-H, how to get involved, or how to apply for a 4-H scholarship contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
