CYFERnet Provides Digital Media Show and Tell Contest

AMES, Iowa -- CYFERnet (Children, Youth and Families Education and Research Network) provides online missions related to science and technology for youth. The January mission is a Digital Media Show and Tell Contest.

Contestants must use either photography, audio, video or mixed media to demonstrate what makes their 4-H or CYFAR (Children, Youth and Families at Risk) program special. Both independent and team work is accepted. CYFERnet will post submissions online for public viewing and contest winners will be recognized at the May 2007 CYFAR conference.

Jay Staker, Iowa State University Extension 4-H youth development specialist, is working with CYFERnet to create monthly missions related to science and technology.

“We wanted to be able to give youth an opportunity to combine all the valuable communication skills learned in 4-H with the new and exciting world of digital communications,” said Staker. “With the prevalence of cell phones, text messaging, MP3 players and digital imaging in our lives, it is important for youth to develop skills and experience using these technological tools in order to communicate effectively.”

Submissions are due Feb. 28. For more information and contest rules, go to www.cyfernet.org/4htech/missions.html.
