AMES, Iowa—This summer, the Iowa 4-H Center is offering a wide variety of camps for children and adults of all ages.
The summer starts out with “Everything Camp,” which is just for “campers who want everything.” With one-week and two-week options, campers are able to participate in all of the following program areas: Waterfront, Great Outdoors, Shooting Sports, Camp Craft and the Challenge Course. Traditional camp activities like swimming, campfires and cabin group activities also will be included.
Another fun camp that kicks off summer is “Un-Camp.” This is for teenagers who want a very different camp experience. Campers get to stay up late and sleep in, eat ice cream with breakfast, go to a BBQ at Ledges State Park and do many more unexpected activities.
The Iowa 4-H Center offers many more camps, with many of them specialized to campers’ interests. Camps like “Gone Fishin,” “Horse’n Around” and “Technomania Camp” give campers the experience of a real summer camp while learning more about their favorite interests.
“4-H camps offer supervised independence, a sense of belonging with a positive group and a wide variety of opportunities to master new skills and life challenges,” said Traci Haselhuhn, Iowa 4-H Center program director. “The Iowa 4-H Center follows the motto of ‘learning by doing’ while having fun with new friends.”
The center is ACA accredited and available for facility rentals year-round. Haselhuhn describes the 4-H Center as a "beautiful, scenic site in the heart of Iowa."
