AMES, Iowa – Youth 15 and older can gain leadership opportunities at the Iowa 4-H Center during the summer 2007 camping season. Application must be made online or postmarked by April 14 to receive an early registration discount.
Leaders-In-Training (LIT) Camp, for youth ages 15 to 16, is a one-week camp that focuses on leadership. LITs train to become future camp staff members through hands-on training, observations and practice that promote leadership skills.
As a team, LITs use their expertise leading activities, encouraging campers and doing work crew projects. They also participate in advanced camp activities, off-site camping and pizza parties.
Counselors-In-Training (CIT) Camp, for youth ages 16 to 17, is a two-week camp to begin the transition from camper to staff member. CIT campers gain hands-on training as staff members through experiences that teach responsibility, leadership, communication and time-management.
CITs shadow counselors, living with them and younger campers overnight and helping to run program sessions. Successful completion of this camp qualifies participants for consideration as assistant volunteer counselors for the remainder of the summer.
