AMES, Iowa – Chelsea Friedrich of Howard County received a state 4-H leadership project award that includes a $100 savings bond from the Iowa 4-H Foundation and the Mary Jo and Glen Mente Endowment. Friedrich, 18, is the daughter of Rod and Toni Friedrich of Alta Vista.
During her 10 years in 4-H, Friedrich completed several major projects including leadership, citizenship, communication, and home improvement. She received state 4-H honors in citizenship and communication. Along with these, Friedrich received many county-level awards such as Danforth “I Dare You,” Lamp of Knowledge, and achievement in leadership, citizenship and 4-H experience. She was president, vice president, secretary and treasurer of her 4-H club. She served on her county, area and state 4-H councils and her county youth committee. She attended the National 4-H Congress, and served as a member of the youth leadership team. She was also a participant in Citizenship-Washington Focus and the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.
“Through 4-H I have developed leadership, citizenship and life skills,” said Friedrich. “It has taught me how to be comfortable talking in front of an audience and how to be responsible, organized and independent. Most importantly 4-H has shown me that with determination and confidence, I can achieve anything I set my mind to.”
