Hardin County 4-H’er Earns Sheep Project Award

9/26/2006

AMES, Iowa – Ben Daniels of Hardin County received a state 4-H sheep project award that includes a $100 savings bond from the Craig Van Arkel Memorial. Daniels, 17, is the son of Dr. Larry and Peggy Daniels of Eldora.

During his eight years in 4-H, Daniels has completed several major projects including sheep, swine, horticulture, visual arts and conservation. At the 2006 State Fair, he received the award and scholarship for premier sheep exhibitor. Along with this, Daniels has received many county-level honors such as the supreme showmanship award and many project awards. He also has been the vice president and historian of his 4-H club. He has served on his county 4-H council as president and also attended the National 4-H Congress. He also has been a participant in the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.

“4-H has been very important to my growth and development,” said Daniels. “It has helped me to set goals, plan the actions to achieve those goals, and then follow through. Because of my involvement in the sheep project areas, I now know that I want my future career to be in the sheep industry.”

Daniels is a senior at Eldora-New Providence Community School.
