AMES, Iowa – Melanie Adam of Woodbury County received a state 4-H citizenship project award that includes a $100 savings bond from the Mary Jo and Glen Mente Endowment. Adam, 18, is the daughter of Brian and Kay Adam of Sioux City.
During her nine years in 4-H, Adam completed several major projects including citizenship, leadership, communication, photography and family heritage. She received state 4-H awards in leadership and communication. Along with these, Adam received many awards at the county level such as outstanding graduated senior, the Danforth “I Dare You” Award, optimist award and spirit of 4-H. She also was the president, vice president, historian and secretary of her 4-H club. She served on her county 4-H council as president and also served on her area and state 4-H councils and the National 4-H Congress. Adam also participated in the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference and attended National 4-H Conference.
“If it weren’t for 4-H, I know that I wouldn’t have gained the citizenship, leadership, communication and life skills that are so important to the person I have become,” said Adam. “The experiences 4-H has given me, like making new friends, going on national trips, participating in fairs and all the other learning experiences I have had are invaluable to me!”
Adam is a freshman at Iowa State University.
