AMES, Iowa – Amanda Walter of Boone County received a state 4-H communication project award that includes a $100 savings bond from the Mary Jo and Glen Mente Endowment. Walter, 17, is the daughter of Todd and Paula Walter of Madrid.
During her nine years in 4-H, Walter has completed several major projects including communication, leadership, citizenship, food and nutrition and automotive. She has received state 4-H honors for her state fair exhibits and the seal of excellence for a communication entry. Along with these, Walter has received many honors at the county level, earning outstanding sixer, freshman and achievement awards as well as project awards in communication, citizenship, leadership, and food and nutrition. She has been president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer of her 4-H club. She has served on her county 4-H council and youth committee and participated in the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference and Citizenship-Washington Focus.
“4-H has helped me gain life skills such as communications, leadership and recordkeeping,” said Walter. “I will take these skills with me to college and use them for the rest of my life.”
Walter is a senior at Madrid High School.
