AMES, Iowa – Kari Pierce of Boone County received a state 4-H clothing project award that includes a $100 savings bond from the Mary Jo and Glen Mente Endowment. Pierce, 18, is the daughter of Jeff and Kathy Pierce of Ogden.

During her nine years in 4-H, Pierce completed several major projects including clothing, food and nutrition, citizenship, photography and swine. She received state 4-H blue ribbons in clothing, food, citizenship and communication. Along with these, Pierce received many county-level honors such as outstanding sixer, outstanding freshman, the spirit award and the gold award in clothing and food. She also was the president, secretary and historian of her 4-H club. Pierce served on her county and area 4-H councils.

“As soon as I began 4-H, I learned the importance of service, leadership and communication,” said Pierce. “During my years in 4-H, I developed these attributes through club activities and projects, and I will now carry them into adulthood.”

Pierce is a freshman at Iowa State University.
