AMES, Iowa – T.J. Masker of West Pottawattamie County received a state 4-H beef project award that includes a $100 savings bond from the Iowa 4-H Foundation and the Mary Jo and Glen Mente Endowment. Masker, 18, is the son of R. John and Deb Masker of Neola.

During his 10 years in 4-H, Masker completed several major projects including swine, beef, leadership and communication. He was president and photographer of his 4-H club, and was a summer camp counselor for three years. Masker served on his county, area and state 4-H councils. He is a recipient of the Jurgens 4-H Scholarship and the Delta Tau Delta Freshman “Living Excellence” Scholarship.

“4-H has prepared me to face life experiences through learning how to set and accomplish goals,” said Masker. “It has also helped me to learn to achieve graciously and to accept and learn from projects that haven’t gone as well as I would have liked.”
