Clayton County 4-H’er Earns Veterinary Science Project Award

AMES, Iowa – Matt Henkes of Clayton County received a state 4-H veterinary science project award that includes a $100 savings bond from the Iowa 4-H Foundation and the Craig Van Arkel Memorial. Henkes, 15, is the son of Trent and Leslie Henkes of Luana.
During his six years in 4-H, Henkes has completed several major projects including veterinary science, dairy, animal science and communication. He has received many state 4-H honors including top junior and senior individual judging contests, second in state showmanship and grand champion dairy Holstein. Along with these, Henkes has received local honors such as county showmanship awards and area awards in veterinary science and communication. He has been secretary and reporter of his 4-H club. Henkes also has been a green team member.
“4-H has taught me organizational skills, public speaking skills and good sportsmanship,” said Henkes. “I will use all of these skills as I continue on through life.”
Henkes is a sophomore at MFL Mar Mac High School.
