AMES, Iowa – Kourtney Determan of Sac County received a state 4-H leadership project award that includes a $100 savings bond from the Mary Jo and Glen Mente Endowment. Determan, 16, is the daughter of Steve and Barb Determan of Early.
During her nine years in 4-H, Determan has completed several major projects including leadership, citizenship, communication, clothing and sheep. She has received many state 4-H awards including a state communication project award and excellence in extemporaneous speaking, working exhibit and educational presentation. Along with these, Determan received many top awards at the county-level such as clothing selection, fashion revue and junior and senior record books. She also has been the secretary and reporter of her 4-H club. She has served on her county, area and state 4-H councils and also has been a participant at the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.
“4-H has helped me in many ways. I have made many friends through 4-H, and it has also taught me citizenship, leadership, and communication skills,” said Determan. “I have learned a lot about my own interests, and that will help me decide what I want to do with my life.”
Determan is a junior at Schaller-Crestland High School.
