AMES, Iowa – Heidi Welsh of Iowa County has been selected to represent Iowa at the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Ga. Nov. 24-28. She is sponsored by the Iowa Farm Bureau Life Charitable Trust and Kent Feeds, Inc. Welsh, 17, is the daughter of Bob and Nancy Welsh of Williamsburg.
Welsh will join 22 other youth from Iowa at the leadership conference, entitled "Lead, Learn, Grow." Iowa's Congress delegates are selected through interviews and evaluation of support materials. Welsh, a senior at Williamsburg High School, was chosen for her leadership, citizenship and overall achievement in the 4-H program.
During her nine years in 4-H, Welsh has completed major projects including communication, rabbit, food and nutrition, photography and veterinary science. She has received a state and county rabbit project award. She also has served as president, vice president, treasurer and secretary of her 4-H club. She has served on her county, area and state 4-H councils, her county youth committee and her county 4-H Foundation. She also has participated in the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.
“4-H has helped me develop incredible communication and people skills,” said Welsh. “It has given me the opportunity to step outside of my comfort zone and try new things.”
