AMES, Iowa – Beth Holz of Greene County has been selected to represent Iowa at the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Ga. Nov. 24-28. She is sponsored by the Iowa Farm Bureau Life Charitable Trust and the Iowa Soybean Promotion Board. Holz, 16, is the daughter of Howard and Mary Ellen Holz of Grand Junction.
Holz will join 22 other youth from Iowa at the leadership conference, entitled "Lead, Learn, Grow." Iowa's Congress delegates are selected through interviews and evaluation of support materials. Holz, a junior at Jefferson-Scranton High School, was chosen for her leadership, citizenship and overall achievement in the 4-H program.
During her eight years in 4-H, Holz has completed major projects including swine, photography, agricultural and natural resources, food and nutrition and clothing. She has received state 4-H honors such as the World Food Prize recognition and blue ribbons on state fair exhibits. Along with these, Holz has received honors at the county level such as champion market hog and many exhibits chosen for state fair selection. She also has served as vice president and historian of her 4-H club and is a Greene County young leader. She has served on her county youth committee, state 4-H council and has participated in the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.
“As soon as I started 4-H, I felt like I belonged to something special,” said Holz. “It has helped me to take advantage of many opportunities and to expose myself to different environments. 4-H has taught me skills that will be useful in the workplace, home and relationships with other people.”
