AMES, Iowa – Brittany McAlexander of Calhoun County has been selected to represent Iowa at the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Ga. Nov. 25-29. She is sponsored by the Iowa Farm Bureau Life Charitable Trust and Ron and Florine Swanson. McAlexander, 17, is the daughter of Earl and Kerri McAlexander of Rockwell City.
McAlexander will join 22 other youth from Iowa at the leadership conference, entitled "Lead, Learn, Grow." Iowa's Congress delegates are selected through interviews and evaluation of support materials. McAlexander, a senior at Rockwell City-Lytton High School, was chosen for her leadership, citizenship and overall achievement in the 4-H program.
During her nine years in 4-H, McAlexander has completed several major projects including communication, child development, clothing, consumer management and horticulture. She also has been a recipient of the Danforth “I Dare You” Award and a merit award in her home county. She has also been the president, vice president, treasurer and secretary of her 4-H club. McAlexander has served on her county, area and state 4-H councils and has participated in the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.
“4-H has allowed me to meet a lot of great people and travel all over the state and country,” said McAlexander. “It has also helped me to develop various life skills like communication, leadership and citizenship. 4-H has helped me determine the kind of person I want to be.”
